Hlavn\u00fdm \u00fa\u010delom RTO je oxidova\u0165 \u0161kodliv\u00e9 plyny na ne\u0161kodn\u00e9, ako je oxid uhli\u010dit\u00fd a vodn\u00e1 para. V prvom rade pom\u00e1haj\u00fa pri ochrane \u017eivotn\u00e9ho prostredia premenou \u0161kodliv\u00fdch plynov na ne\u0161kodn\u00e9. Zabezpe\u010duj\u00fa tie\u017e dodr\u017eiavanie r\u00f4znych environment\u00e1lnych z\u00e1konov a emisn\u00fdch noriem. Syst\u00e9my RTO navy\u0161e vyu\u017e\u00edvaj\u00fa technol\u00f3giu sp\u00e4tn\u00e9ho z\u00edskavania tepla na sp\u00e4tn\u00e9 z\u00edskavanie a vyu\u017eitie tepla z odpadov\u00fdch plynov.
