RTO stands for regenerative thermal oxidizer. RTOs work by heating up the polluted air, which causes the pollutants to oxidize and break down into less harmful compounds. The purified air is then released into the atmosphere.

When printing equipment emits polluted air, it’s collected and sent to the RTO. The RTO heats up the polluted air to temperatures between 815-980¡ãC (1500-1800¡ãF) and holds it in a combustion chamber for a few seconds to ensure complete oxidation. The purified air is then released into the atmosphere, and the RTO cycles to bring in more polluted air.
